Recent History
Since 2005, YPCC has Undergone something of a revival. Under the enthusiastic leadership of Mark Stelfox and Will Clifton, the club has improved on and off the field. In 2007 and 2008 the club played a total of 28 matches and lost only 2 matches. In 2008, the club won the John Dews 20 over competition, thrashing Ledsham by 70 runs in the final. The combination of weaker friendlies and increasing strength of YPCC meant a new challenge was needed.
League Cricket
YPCC decided to approach several Leagues in the autumn of 2008 in an attempt to increase the standard of opposition they played. After several discussions, YPCC were accepted into the Leeds West Riding League in Jan 2009. The League was due to disband in 2009 but the Committee of YPCC felt it was a suitable stepping stone towards Long term League Cricket. The initial plan had been to test the water in one of the lower divisions and assess later in 2009 whether the League Cricket experiment had worked. As it turned out, the LWRCL had decide to promote YPCC to Division 1 in a re-structure League format. A friendly side was therefore thrust into a highly competitive league with clubs who had greater facilities and more sides.
2009 Summer
YPCC started their League programme away at Notton and despite a slow start and a mini collaspe, won the game comfortably. The second league match at home established the Posties as a force in the League. Batting first a YPCC total of 154 seemed only adequate but Cookridge went from 31-1 to 31-9 in 13 sensational overs and were bowled out for 39. From then on YPCC continued to win games and finished a creditable 3rd in the WRCL with an 10-8 record. Though no one individual was outstanding (except Vice-Captain Will Clifton), YPCC gained a reputation as a side full of bowling and batting depth who played the game in a sporting manner and indeed went on to win the Sportmanship Award.Despite a small squad, YPCC also achieved notable away wins at Cookridge and Garforth in the Cup, before losing to Pollington in the Semi-Finals.With demand for games at an all time high, approx 14 Sunday games were played and the club played 38 games in total - 24 more than the 2008 season.
2010 Summer
YPCC has joined the Wetherby Cricket League and the first fixture is on the 17th April against Church Fenton 'A'.
