Ballast (band)
Ballast was a hardcore punk band formed in Vancouver, Canada and based out of Montreal, Canada.
History
Dave Earles (formerly of the band Lesser of Two) and Spoke decided to form Ballast while freighthopping from Oakland, California to Vancouver, Canada where all the members lived. After a failed tour and line-up changes the band relocated to Montreal, Canada.
Ballast toured Europe extensively and released numerous recordings on several labels including Profane Existence.
After disbanding many of the members went on to form the band Preying Hands which plays similar music.
MusicAL style
Ballast plays a mix of hardcore punk, crust punk, and peace punk with melodic female vocals and gruff male vocals.
Ideology
Ballast's lyrics include criticisms of militarism, war, consumerism, the United States government, and former president George W. Bush.
