Wati is a Hong Kong–based company that provides a low-code customer engagement platform built on the WhatsApp Business API. The platform is used to manage multi-agent messaging, automation, and chatbot workflows for business customer communication. The company was founded in 2020 by Bianca Ho and Ken Yeung.

History

Wati was founded in 2020 by Bianca Ho and Ken Yeung. The founders reportedly had previously worked together on Clare.ai, an AI digital-assistant product; Wati was launched as a separate product to serve enterprises via the WhatsApp Business API.

In December 2021, Wati announced an $8.3 million Series A financing round led by Sequoia Capital India.

In October 2022, Wati announced a $23 million Series B round led by Tiger Global, with participation from existing investors and new participants reported as Sequoia Capital India, DST Global Partners, and Shopify. The investment was also noted as Shopify’s first venture investment in a startup based in Asia.

The round brought the company’s total funding to more than US$35 million.

Wati operates an online training site called Wati Academy, described as a free educational resource covering use of WhatsApp for business and related platform features.
