Varun Parandhaman
Varun Parandhaman is an independent artiste / music producer based in Chennai, India. He, along with fellow singer/songwriter Josh Vivian, co-founded Namma Ooru Boy Band (NOBB), the first ever Tamil Boy Band in Chennai, Tamilnadu. This duo is considered the pioneers of Tamil Pop. Their first single Cosmopolitan Kadhali has garnered more than 100,000 views on YouTube since its release in April 2014.
Early life
Born and brought up in Chennai in KPCVSS, Varun Parandhaman studied to be a Software Engineer just like all the boys from a typical middle class background. He took to singing and song writing in middle school but never had any formal learning in any form of music. While pursuing a professional engineering degree, he won numerous solo singing events in the inter-college level. Pretty soon he became famous in the Chennai band circle and started getting known for his brilliant crowd interaction skills and for involving the audience in his performances.
Music career
While in college, he taught himself how to use popular DAWs today such as Cubase, Nuendo, Ableton Live and more. He then became the music producer for various artists in Chennai, and also collaborated with them.
In 2009, Varun sang the hook for the remix version of the song Kadavule Kadavule composed by music director D.Imman in the actor Jiiva starrer Kacheri Arambam.
Since then, he has been freelancing as a back up vocalist for years. Music took a huge turn when he graduated from college. He has sung back-up for reputed music directors in the industry today such as
1. A. R. Rahman, 2. D. Imman, 3. Anirudh Ravichander, 4. Pradeep Vijay, 5. Sean Roldon, 6. Siddharth Vipin of Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, 7. Ved Shankar of "Hey Crazy Penne" fame and more.
Also, he has always been associated with Independent Music and has worked on and recorded songs for The Famous Tamil Hip Hop group, Hiphop Tamizha.
When long time friend And Co-artist Josh Vivian came up with the idea of starting a tamil boy band seeing it was non-existent, they decided to collaborate their music styles to form Namma Ooru Boy Band(NOBB) in August 2013.
He is the music producer, Vocalist and Co-Founder of the first ever tamil pop duo, "Namma Ooru Boy Band".
The promo video of their reggae style single Cosmopolitan Kadhali was endorsed by music director Anirudh Ravichander and immediately created a buzz among Tamil Independent/Non-film music soon after its release in November 2013. The full video was released in April 2014 under the banner Divo Movies and starring model Surya Ganapathy along with the duo.
Cosmopolitan Kadhali received rave reviews from both the press, independent and film artists and was premiered in the popular South Indian Music Channel Sun Music which predominantly plays film music in July 2014.
It was followed up by numerous live performances including HORIZONS 2014
Following the success of Cosmopolitan Kadhali, Varun Parandhaman bagged another huge milestone. His debut into tamil film music,an opportunity through music composer D.Imman in the yet to be released film Sigaram Thodu starring actor Vikram Prabhu. The song Takku Takku with lead vocals by Varun Parandhaman and another Independent Folk Artist, Anthony Daasan. The audio which was released on August 7, 2014 had Varun Parandhaman performing the song live at Sathyam Cinemas. The song has become a "MASS HIT" according to the papers, due to its peppy tune and quirky lyrics by Madhan Karky.
