The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono is located in a historic building in Wailuku, on the island of Maui, Hawaii.
History of Lufkin House
Originally built in 1924, it was the home of Charles Dexter Lufkin. Lufkin was born October 28, 1863 in Shelbyville, Illinois. His father was Charles Dexter Lufkin (1828–1863) and mother was Lucia Russell Smith. He married Julia Helen Gilmore and had one son Frank Addison Lufkin. He started a business selling shoes in Faribault, Minnesota, and then worked at a bank in Elk Point, South Dakota from 1889 to 1898. After moving to Honolulu, he opened the First National Bank of Wailuku in 1901. In 1906 he opened a bank in Lahaina, and in 1913 a bank in Paia. By 1917 they were consolidated into the Bank of Maui, and are now part of the Bank of Hawaii. His older brother Frank Nathaniel Lufkin (1860–1927) also worked in the family banks. He died December 1, 1940.
The house was purchased by Thomas and Janice Fairbanks in June 1996 from Lyle and Lorraine Holmberg. They engaged architect James Neiss of Maui Architectural Group to draw up the plans to rehabilitate the Lufkin House for its new life as the Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono. On November 2, 1996 The Lufkin House was added to the State Historic Register as site 50-04-1613 and nominated to the National Historic Register. In January 1997 a seven month renovation started. In September 1997 the Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono opened for business in the house.

- Historic Hawaii Foundation Preservation Award 2004.
The bed and breakfast was one of Travel & Leisure’s top 10 B&B’s in United States 2000. In 2003, the Historic Hawaii foundation honored its preservation.
