Singsongers (podcast)

Singsongers is an interview-based podcast hosted by American writer, producer, and actor, Dino Stamatopoulos. The series, which debuted in 2017, focuses on the creative process of songwriting, featuring interviews with professional musicians and songwriters.

It was produced by Starburns Audio, a division of Stamatopoulos's production company, Starburns Industries.

Originally launched on the Feral Audio network, the show transitioned to Starburns Audio following the dissolution of the former. The series is known for Stamatopoulos's self-deprecating hosting style and his "unprofessional" yet deeply passionate approach to the musical medium.

Format

The title is a play on the term "singer-songwriter," a label Stamatopoulos frequently mocks or applies tentatively to himself. The podcast operates as a masterclass for the host himself; as the frontman for the band Sorry About Everything, Stamatopoulos uses the guests to help him understand his own creative blockages.

A recurring theme of the show is the "Singsonger Taxonomy," where Stamatopoulos asks guests to self-identify as one of two types of creators:

  1. The Vomiter: A songwriter who produces material quickly and instinctively, often completing a song in one sitting without overthinking the technical aspects.
  2. The Coal Miner: A songwriter who labors over every word and note, "digging" for the song through a slow, often painful process of refinement.

The podcast was primarily co-hosted by Church Bryant (often referred to simply as "Church" on-mic), who acted as a technical foil to Dino's chaotic energy. Dan Harmon (who worked with Stamatopoulos), was also a recurring guest on the show.
