Thattum Vellattam
Thattum Vellattam is an upcoming Indian Malayalam-language film directed by Mridul Nair and produced by Masood TP, Safeer Ahmed, Rajeev Maroli and Sherin Vennamkattil under the banner of Mars Entertainment.
The film is set against the backdrop of Theyyam traditions in North Malabar. The project was initially announced in 2020 with Asif Ali, Soubin Shahir, Saiju Kurup, Balu Varghese and Jean Paul Lal in key roles.
After a prolonged delay, the project was revived in 2025 with Soubin Shahir and Deepak Parambol in the lead roles.
Premise
The film is set in North Malabar and revolves around Theyyam, local folklore, superstition and regional political conflicts. Director Mridul Nair described the film as a commercial entertainer rooted in the cultural traditions of Kannur.

Production
The project was officially announced on 2 January 2020. The film marked the reunion of actor Asif Ali and director Mridul Nair after their collaboration on B Tech.
According to Nair, the title refers to a fierce form associated with Theyyam traditions. The film was conceived as a commercial entertainer exploring mythology, folklore and politics in North Malabar.
The producers announced that the film would be produced under Mars Entertainment by Masood TP, Safeer Ahmed, Rajeev Maroli and Sherin Vennamkattil.
Development hell and revival
The film remained in development for several years following its initial announcement. In 2023, actor Asif Ali stated in an interview that Thattum Vellattam remained one of his dream projects and expressed hope that the film would eventually materialize.
In March 2025, a title announcement video was released, confirming the revival of the project. Contemporary reports identified Soubin Shahir and Deepak Parambol as the lead actors. The technical crew included cinematographer Manoj Kumar Khatoi, editor Sooraj E. S. and composer Manikandan Ayyappa.
