Surwar
Survar, Sarwar or Surwar (सूरवार) is a clan of Rajputs.
Places
This clan is spread across northern part of India. Mainly in Rajasthan, Eastern Uttar Pradesh (Benares, Mirzapur, Jaunpur) and Western Bihar (Arrah, Patna). Piania village of Bhojpur district alone has more than two thousands Rajputs from this clan. There are many villages nearby to Arrah, Bihar where people of this clan are living.
Origin
Old people living in Piania village claim that, hundreds of years ago, their ancestors migrated from Rajasthan. They mention that their ancestors were from a place called Surpur Belahri in Rajasthan. However, place with a name of Surpur Belahri not widely known today and so it can be assumed that it must be old name or may be it was a small town.
It is noteworthy that some sources mention that Surwar rajputs were from Sarwar city from Ajmer District. And, Handbook on Rajputs wrote by Capt. A.H. Bingley and published in 1899 mention their original place of migration as Bikaner.
Moreover, Handbook on Rajputs mention that Sarwar or Surwar rajput originally emigrated from districts beyond Sarayu (Sarju) and Ghaghara (Gogra) to Rajasthan at some remote period. And, that could be the reason for they calling themselves as Sarwar.
Worship
Surwars mainly worship Lord Rama. They consider themselves as Surajbanshis (Suryavanshi Rajput) and their gotras are mainly Garg and Bharadwaj.
