Student@Home
Student@Home is a UK Social Enterprise based in London that employs students from Universities across London to provide support in computing and technology to home users and businesses. Student@Home was piloted by Kelly Klein in 2012 and was launched officially in October 2013.
Background
The concept originated in the Netherlands in 2008. Student@Home Is designed to employ students with little or no relevant work experience in the IT field. Student@Home provides students with relevant work experience by providing support to people who struggle with technology. Student@Home works with several housing associations to reduce digital exclusion amongst residents. Due to many services becoming digital by default, non computer users are at risk of becoming marginalised and lacking access to a broad range of online opportunities. Some of Student@Home's most common issues include slow computers, viruses or crashing computers. Student@Home was awarded Social Entrepreneur prize at ITC enterprise awards ceremony on June 7, 2013. In November 2013, Student@Home was announced a finalist at the National Business awards for the Social Enterprise of the Year.
