Stephen Charlie

Stephen Charlie (born 1990) is a Canadian from Victoria, British Columbia, who was convicted of charges relating to the prostitution of a child online. He was sentenced to three years in prison. Charlie initially faced six charges, four of which related to the prostitution of a child online and two of which were unrelated. The four related charges were kidnapping, living off the proceeds of prostitution, forcing a person to work as a prostitute, and assault. Corporal Kathy Rochlitz of the West Shore Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) stated that Charlie allegedly solicited the girl online, and then kidnapped her around November 22, 2010. Charlie then proceeded to offer the child as a prostitute on several websites. The RCMP held a fourteen-month investigation before Laying the charges. Charlie was arrested on January 19, 2012. Because the victim of the prostitution was only 16 years old at the time of Charlie's arrest, her name was not released to the public. In response to this event, members of the Victoria community raised $10000 to enter Andrew Kooman's She Has a Name, a play AbOUT [...] slavery, in the Victoria Fringe Festival from August 24 to September 3.
