Starting Today (Nina Sky album)
Starting Today (previously also titled as "The MusicAL" and later "Startin' Over") is an unreleased album by New York City-based R&B twins Nina Sky. Originally, it was due for release on July 27, 2007, after they left Universal Records and signed to Polo Grounds Music/J Records. It was then set to be released in late 2008, then in 2009, but it never was released because of issues with their label Polo Grounds and its president Bryan Leach.
The first single, "Get Your Clothes Off" (featuring The Kid Daytona), was released sometime in May 2007 as a promotional single. The second single, "Curtain Call", features a guest appearance from hip hop singer Rick Ross and was released on August 12, 2008. The music video for the song was filmed in September, but they later quit filming and the video has never been released. On November 12, 2008, the third single, "On Some [...]" was released in two versions: a clean edit and dirty mastered. On April 8, 2009, the music video was released, produced by Relentless. It was the first of two music videos released from the unreleased album. On July 5, 2009, the song "Beautiful People" was released as the fourth single. It was later put on The Other Side, an independently released EP on August 3, 2010.
Background
The album's recording started in 2005 when the album's name was The Musical. In 2006 Nina Sky released second mixtape 80's Babies. Album's recording finished in 2007. It was originally due to July 27, 2007 but it wasn't released then. They released four singles from the album and the last is released on July 5, 2009 and the label still haven't released the album. The duo start to have fights with label because the president Bryan Leach ignores them. In mid-2009, Nina Sky were in battle with their second label Polo Grounds over releasing their third (unreleased) studio album Starting Today. They have recorded more than 100 songs for their album. They soon write on Twitter: "Starting a new campaign today... 'Nina Sky Doesn't Play Polo. For months we've had complete album, ready for release. Y'all wanna know what's relly goin' on? Nothing [and] that's the problem. We released [two] videos and singles without support from our label. All good... Stayed positive. After months of no movement, we asked to be released [and] still nothing. No acknowledgmengt from the President of our label, Bryan Leach. Bottom line, we want to be released. If you're really down with our movement, holler [at] Bryan Leach". On January 28, 2010 the music video for Beautiful People was released. The video is described as "not just another video".
