SAFEwalk
SAFEwalk is a nighttime safety service at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. The program offers a safe way for people to get home by Providing them with a SAFEwalk team (2 SAFEwalkers) to escort them home or around the campus area. The teams are often male/female and each team has a radio that keeps them in contact with the UW Police Department as well as the SAFE dispatcher. This program was started in the early 1990s and continues to serve students to this day. It is staffed entirely by students from the university. In the fall and early spring the program runs from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m. and in the summer and fall it starts at 8 p.m. and goes until 1 a.m. By calling the SAFEwalk dispatcher at 608-262-5000, students, faculty and university guests are able to schedule and request walks. SAFEwalkers also patrol the campus area and May Be solicited for a walk at anytime. While not on walks, SAFEwalk teams watch for dangerous Situations and are able to help with people with a variety of issues.
