Rene Rietmeyer

Rene Rietmeyer, *1957, is a Dutch artist and the initiator of the international art project Personal Structures.

Rietmeyer studied from 1979 until 1984 psychology in Innsbruck, Austria. From 1986 until 1994 he was director of a private art academy in Greece. After a period of figurative painting Rietmeyer developed in 1997 his installation art containing "Boxes". These "Boxes" are three-dimensional, mostly painted objects. Since 1996 Rietmeyer exhibited in several museums and galleries in Europe, Japan and North America.

Rietmeyer's Boxes find their origin in Minimal Art but opposit to that art-movement, Rietmeyer expresses with formal elements, such as color, shape and material, his subjectiv, personal experiences. Time, Space and Existence are important subjects in the work of Rietmeyer.

In 2003 Rietmeyer initiated the art project Personal Structures in which artists like Joseph Kosuth, Roman Opalka and Lawrence Weiner participate.
