Prueba Nortena
Prueba Norteña was a critically acclaimed Mexican norteño band led by the female vocalists and radio hosts & sisters Martha and Tere Ramirez.
History
With very humble beginnings, a mother and her 4 children emigrated from a small town in Sinaloa, Mexico to the United States with aspirations and hope of having better conditions of life. With time, of those four teenagers, two of them, Martha and Tere Ramirez, had beautiful singing voices which benefited from years of vocal lessons in which they met with important people in the music industry. Along with a close friend, they formed a singing trio called "Trio Kristal", where they covered popular pop songs. Afterwards, the two sisters, along with Raul Miranda (piano) and Angel Santos (drums), formed a cumbia group named "Prueba De Amor", which toured around the West Coast for various years, noticing a particular love by the crowds to the norteño music.
Career
It was 2007 when Prueba Norteña recorded their very first album, entitled “Todavia”. The two core musicians in the band, Raul Miranda (accordion) and Angel Santos (drums), decided to make a drastic shift in musical direction. The band changed their entire repertoire to solely norteño. Its first single, “Tus Desprecios” was released to critical acclaim and was a Billboard Top 40 Regional Mexican hit.
They toured throughout the United States and parts of Mexico extensively in support of the album through 2009, with notable acts of the Regional Mexican music scene including Jenni Rivera, Graciela Beltrán, Los Rieleros del Norte, Polo Urias, Michael Salgado, and many more.
In 2009, both Martha and Tere Ramirez were approached by father of Jenni Rivera and Lupillo Rivera to host a radio show on the online “Rivera Radio” station, which they called “Martha Y Tere” on which they interview various emerging artists and musicians. In 2011, Tere Ramirez took a hiatus from Prueba Nortena to focus on her own personal life and other endeavors. Martha Ramirez then became the sole front-woman of the band in which the success continued. At the beginning of 2013, it was announced that they would begin the process of recording their second album featuring only Martha Ramirez on vocals on their Facebook page.
Break-Up
In August 2013, Prueba Norteña disbanded due to various internal disputes. As of today, the musical section of Prueba Norteña formed a new Norteño (music) group called "Las R's". The two lead singers, Martha and Tere, began performing under the name "Martha Y Tere", which marked the long awaited reunion of both singing sisters since their split in 2011. In July 2014, "Martha Y Tere" released their debut album entitled, "Hasta El Dia De Hoy". In August 2014, "Las R's" were chosen to perform at a prestigious Norteño (music) awards show, Premios De La Calle. "Las R's" continue to tour and perform as they work on their debut album.
