Powerhouse Films

Powerhouse Films is a British packaged media distribution company founded in 2016 by former Sony DADC and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment sales exec John Morrissey, which releases classic films under the Indicator label.

Initially drawing their releases exclusively from the Sony/Columbia catalogue courtesy of their founder's connections, as of January 2018 they have also started to release titles from Universal Pictures.

From the outset, their releases have received considerable critical praise, with such publications as Sight and Sound, DVD Beaver, Mondo Digital and CineOutsider noting their typically generous extras and substantial booklets. The production team comprises people who have worked with such boutique labels as Arrow Films, the British Film Institute, The Criterion Collection, Eureka's The Masters of Cinema Series and Second Run and have been applying the same curatorial principles to Indicator releases.

Regular features include audio recordings of live InterViews conducted at London's National Film Theatre, often with stars and directors who have since died. Cut-down Super 8 editions offer nostalgic appeal. Brand new commentaries have been recorded by filmmakers like Peter Medak, actors like Jim Dale and critics like Jeanine Basinger, Michael Brooke, Samm Deighan, Kat Ellinger, Glenn Kenny, Johnny Mains, David Miller, Kim Morgan, Nick Pinkerton and Jonathan Rigby, while Twilight Time commentaries featuring Lem Dobbs, Julie Kirgo and Nick Redman have been licensed for Indicator discs. Some releases include more than one version of the main feature: for instance See No Evil and its British theatrical edit Blind Terror.

Most releases consist of a single title, but more ambitious box-set projects span the Columbia output of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Films. For the first year of operation, they released their titles on Blu-ray and DVD, but as of October 2017 they have been exclusively releasing Blu-rays.

All titles are initially limited edition, each coming with a booklet. Once a title is out of print, standard edition blu-ray editions are then released with the same disc content minus the booklet.
