MCI Group Holdings SA (mci) is a privately owned event management, communication, and Association management company.

History

MCI was started in an office in Geneva, where the company concentrated on Providing services in Destination Management, Events, Meetings and PCO. Over the next 12 years, the company grew in size and reputation and gradually opportunities presented themselves to look beyond Geneva and continue expansion elsewhere.

In 1999, the Zurich office was founded. Not only did this provide geographical expansion, but the Zurich office brought With It expertise in a service that was new to MCI, namely Performance Improvement Programmes (PIP). Having tested the waters to see what expansion was like, MCI grew steadily over the next couple of years with the acquisition of two companies based in Lyon, France - Transit Communications and Podiums.

2002 saw MCI take a significant leap forward. The acquisition of Status Meetings in the UK was the largest expansion that MCI had taken until then. MCI then stood at 132 employees and Status Meetings also introduced an additional 50 more. But as well as bringing further territorial expansion and additional staff, the acquisition of Status Meetings also introduced expertise in Knowledge Transfer Programmes.

In 2003, MCI created two start-ups, Paris and Stuttgart, but most significant was the acquisition of GIC Management in Brussels. GIC was of similar size to Status Meetings, with a staff of some 50 employees, but it also introduced association management to the company. Because virtually all of GIC's business was in associations, it also led to the creation of the Institutional and Corporate Divisions.

Since then, MCI has expanded into Barcelona and Madrid, and beyond Europe, with the start-up of the Asia Pacific office in Singapore. Acquisitions in Europe continued with Congress Partners in Berlin.

International expansion continued in 2006 with the Global Partnership with SmithBucklin in North America, the opening of the Dubai and Shanghai offices and an establishment of a representative in Latin America. In Europe, consolidation continued with the acquisition of StoCon in Stockholm and SCSM in Zurich.

In June 2006, MCI and Ovation Group announced a significant merger. The merger will see Ovation's Events and Conference business in Ireland re-branded as MCI Dublin and MCI Belfast while MCI's destination management business worldwide will re-brand as Ovation International.
