Matthew Torbitt

Matthew Torbitt born c. 1991, is a British political commentator who has appeared as a pundit on LBC, Sky News, GB News, BBC Newsnight and TalkTV in support of the Labour Party. He worked for Labour MP, Christian Wakeford between 2022 and 2024. He worked with and remains a supporter of the former Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham. In July 2026, Torbitt pleaded guilty to two counts of expense account fraud, while he was employed as a Labour Party aide.

Personal life

Torbitt spent part of his teenage years as a rough sleeper, while homeless, before going on to University. He lives in Oxfordshire, and is engaged to former civil servant and human rights activist, Sharon Gaffka. His fiancée appeared within episode 18, of the ITV series, Love Island in 2021.

The couple announced in July 2026, on their Instagram accounts, the birth of their son.

Conviction

In July 2026, Torbitt pleaded guilty at Thames Magistrates' Court, to two counts of fraud while employed in Parliament by Bury South Labour MP, Christian Wakeford.

More than £6,000 was claimed by false misrepresentation during Torbitt's employment, between 23 August 2022, and 29 September 2024, he is scheduled to be sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court, later in 2026.
