Marcin Kamiński (professor of technical sciences)

Marcin Marek Kamiński – (born 1969 in Toruń) is a Polish civil engineer, mechanician, academic teacher, and Professor of Technical Sciences. He is affiliated with Łódź University of Technology and is recognized as a specialist in stochastic mechanics, structural reliability analysis, computational methods in mechanics, and composite mechanics.

Biography

In 1994, he graduated in Civil Engineering from Łódź University of Technology. He earned his PhD in Civil Engineering from the same university in 1997. In 2006, he obtained his habilitation degree in Technical Sciences (Civil Engineering) from Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and in 2014 he was awarded the title of Professor of Technical Sciences.

Between 1999 and 2000, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Rice University in Houston under a scholarship awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science. In 2004, he was also a visiting researcher at the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. As a visiting professor, he conducted research and delivered lectures at the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (2009–2015), Politecnico di Milano (2013), and the University of Naples Federico II (2025).

Since 1994, he has been professionally associated with Łódź University of Technology. He initially worked in the Department of Material Mechanics (1994–2009) and later in the Department of Steel Structures (2009–2012). He served as Head of the Department of Steel Structures from 2009 to 2012, Head of the Structural Reliability Division from 2013 to 2017, and Head of the Discipline of Civil Engineering, Geodesy and Transport from 2019 to 2024. Since 2015, he has held the position of Full Professor in the Department of Structural Mechanics.

Since 2025, he has been a member of the Section of Applications of Mathematics in Mechanics of the Committee of Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He also belongs to the Optimization Section and the Section of Mechanics of Materials and Structures of the same committee.

Scientific activity

His primary research interests focus on the Stochastic Finite Element Method (SFEM) and other discrete stochastic numerical methods. His work also includes numerical modelling of random composites using homogenization theory, structural reliability assessment and optimization, stochastic ageing processes, and the application of probabilistic entropy in engineering computations. In his research, he employs finite element analysis (FEA) software and the MAPLE mathematical computing environment.

He is the author of two monographs: “Computational Mechanics of Composite Materials” (Springer, 2005) and “The Stochastic Perturbation Method for Computational Mechanics” (Wiley, 2013).

He is also the inventor of two patented inventions.
