Grzegorz Liśkiewicz

Grzegorz Paweł Liśkiewicz – is a Polish mechanical engineer and scientist, holding a postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in engineering and technical sciences and serving as a university professor at the Łódź University of Technology. He specializes in the study of fluid-flow machinery, particularly centrifugal compressors, the diagnostics of their unstable operation, and the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods in the energy, aviation, and industrial sectors.

Biography

He graduated from the Łódź University of Technology with degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Computer Science and Technical Physics. In 2014, he received a Ph.D. in Technical Sciences in the field of Machine Design and Operation. His doctoral dissertation was completed as part of a joint doctoral programme conducted by the Łódź University of Technology and the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. In 2022, he obtained the degree of Habilitated Doctor in Engineering and Technical Sciences in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering.

Since the beginning of his professional career, he has been affiliated with the Institute of Turbomachinery at the Łódź University of Technology. From 2017 to 2020, he served as a plenipotentiary of the Rector for Academic Entrepreneurship. He was also a member of the management board of the Technology Transfer Centre of the Łódź University of Technology and was involved in the activities of the university’s special-purpose company.

He is a graduate of the Top 500 Innovators programme at the University of Cambridge, the International Visitor Leadership Programme organized by the U.S. Department of State, and Leadership Academy for Poland.

Between 2024–2025, he was a recipient of the Fulbright Senior Award. He carried out his research project at Texas A&M University, studying the unstable operation of centrifugal compressors in collaboration with the Turbomachinery Laboratory and the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station.

In 2025, together with Tomasz Liśkiewicz, he published the book The Ph.D. Code: 60 Tips to Get Your Degree in STEM Subjects, published by Springer Nature.

He is a co-founder of STEM Racing Poland, the Polish representative of the international STEM Racing programme (formerly F1 in Schools), which promotes engineering education among secondary-school students.

Scientific activities

His research focuses on flow-instability phenomena in compressors, including surge, rotating stall, and inlet recirculation. His work combines Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), experimental research, and measurement signal analysis. The research has applications in the energy sector, process industry, aviation, and automotive engineering.

He has participated in national and international research and development projects related to the energy transition, hydrogen technologies, waste-energy recovery, and industrial digitalization. These include projects funded under the LIDER programme of the National Centre for Research and Development, as well as the European projects FRONTSH1P (Horizon 2020) and FLEXindustries (Horizon Europe).

As part of the Fulbright Senior Award, he conducted research at Texas A&M University on modelling the unstable operation of centrifugal compressors. He continues this collaboration through the NATO H2mJet project focused on hydrogen-combustion technologies for aircraft engines.

He has also participated in industrial research and development projects in cooperation with industrial companies, addressing aerodynamics and flow-related challenges, including projects for Airbus Helicopters and companies from the Oil & Gas sector. He also collaborated with uFraction8 on the development of biomass microfiltration technology.

He is the author and co-author of scientific publications in fluid mechanics and turbomachinery, published in journals such as Journal of Turbomachinery, Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, Measurement, Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, and Energies.

In 2012, he received the award of the Łódź Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences for outstanding scientific achievements by a young researcher.
