Mahavir Cancer Institute & Research Centre is Cancer Institute & Research Centre in Patna established in 12th Dec, 1998, managed by The Famous Mahavir Mandir Trust, Patna, poor patients get quality treatment and personalized affordable care.

Infrastructure

Built on 3 acres of land, Mahavir Cancer Sansthan is a state-of-the art 300 bedded comprehensive cancer hospital. All modalities of treatment are available for cancer patients. The infrastructure includes Out-patient Department, Cancer Screening and Detection centre, Laboratory and Imaging Departments. The Medical Oncology Department is a 30-bedded unit. A unit for "Bone marrow transplant" is being planned. Other services include Surgical Oncology, Voluntary Services, Support Services, Blood Bank, Rehabilitation, Social Welfare services, Pharmacy and Dietary Consultation and Counseling. The Institute has also a canteen, and a Meditation and Prayer Hall. A fully equipped Pain Clinic is planned, which will be unique to Bihar in tackling the agonizing pain of cancer. A Terminal Care Unit with 50-beds-the first in Eastern India in caring for terminally ill patients is to start very soon.

Patients

Till date the total registration of new patients in the hospital for the last 4 years has gone up to more than 23,000. Almost 15% of all new patients are coming from neighbouring states like West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand and also from Nepal.

  • 14th May, 1995 : Foundation stone of cobalt building complex laid by Imam Jenab Syed Bukhari of Jama Masjid, Delhi.
  • 12th Dec, 1998 : Inauguration of the hospital and activation of Cobalt unit by His Holiness Dalai Lama. Patient treatment started.
  • 27th Jun, 1999 : Inauguration of Indoor ward, Laboratory and Radiology by H.E. Shri B.M. Lal, Governor of Bihar.
  • 16th Aug, 1999 : Start of Canteen and Pharmacy.
  • 12th Dec, 2000 : Inauguration of C.T. scan unit by Bhai Iqbal Singh, Chief Granthi, Patna Sahib Gurudwara, Patna City .
  • 12th Dec, 2000 : Inauguration of Mammography unit by Sri A. G. Kalmankar, CGM, State Bank of India, Patna.
  • 27th Jan, 2002 : Operation Theatre complex was inaugurated by Sadhvishri Sampragyaji of Virayatan.
  • 4th Apr, 2002 : A multi institutional project for research in Gall Bladder diseases, including cancer, inaugurated at the Sansthan by Dr. C.P. Thakur, Hon. Health Minister, Govt. of India.
  • 12th Dec, 2002 : Tobacco cessation programme was inaugurated by Sri Shatrughan Sinha, Union Health Minister, Govt. of India.
  • 6th Sept., 2003 : LASER therapy for treatments of cancer at Mahavir Cancer Sansthan was inaugurated by H.E. Mr. M. Rama Jois, Governor of Bihar.
  • 11th Nov., 2003 : Lion`s blood bank was inaugurated by the International Director - Lion Chigurupati Varaprasad.
  • 08th Feb 2005 Hon’ble. Sri Mulayam Singh Yadav, Chief Minister of U.P. Visited Mahavir Cancer Sansthan.
  • 7th March, 2005 : Adopted ‘Kurkuri’ village of Patna district for health care.
  • 15th March, 2005 : Foundation stone laying for installation of 2nd Cobalt machine by H.E. Lt. Gen. (Retd.) S.K. Sinha, Governor of Jammu & Kashmir.
  • 19th March, 2005 : A Special cover on Sansthan issued by Chief post master general, Bihar Circle on the occasion of ‘PATPEX’ 2004.
  • 23rd April, 2005 : Air-conditioned ambulance cum Blood Collection Van donated by Shri Shatrughan Sinha from his M.P. Local area development fund.
  • 28th Jun, 2005 : Inauguration of community oncology wing by H.E. Shri D.N.Sahay, Governor of Tripura.
  • 29th Oct. 2005 : Inauguration of Mahavir Cancer Sansthan library by Sri. Kuldeep Nayyar.
  • 12th Dec. 2005 : Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Nitish Kumar Inaugurated the foundation day celebration and hon’ble minister Shri Chandra Mohan Rai released the year book - “JEEVAN JYOT”
  • 29th October, 2005 Inauguration of Mahavir Cancer Sansthan Library by Shri. Kuldeep Nayyar.
  • 30th Dec. 2005 : H.E. President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Inaugurated the paediatric ward of the Mahavir Cancer Sansthan.
  • 24th March 2006 : Yoga Rishi Swami Ramdev Maharaj inaugurated “2nd Cobalt Machine.”
  • 3rd July 2006 : State planning minister govt. of India Shri Raj Shekhran visited and lauded the functioning of the Sansthan.
  • 12th Feb 2007 : Former Union Health Minister, Govt. of India, Shri Shatrughan Sinha Inaugurated the Research Centre at Mahavir Cancer Sansthan.
  • 21st April 2007 : H.E. Vice President of India Sri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat Inaugurated the Dept. of Cancer Prevention & Control Unit of the Mahavir Cancer Sansthan.
  • 14th Jul 2007 : International President of Lion’s Club Ln. Mahaendra Amarsurya visited Mahavir Cancer Sansthan.
  • 25th Jul, 2007 : Inauguration of Mahavir Cancer Sansthan`s Dharamsala by Hazarat Maulalana Nizamuddin Emarat - e – Shariya.
  • 10th November 2007 : Inauguration of national conference “Oncology- 2006 (ISO & ISMPO), by Union Health Minister, Govt. of India, Dr. Ambumani Ramdoss.
  • 30th November 2007 : M.P. Shri Shatrughan Sinha inaugurated Tambaku Mukti Mission & Cancer Awareness programme in B.S.College, Danapur (Patna).
  • 16th February 2008 : Her Excellency President of India, Mrs. Pratibha Patil inaugurated the IAHOMCON 2008 at Mahavir Cancer Sansthan.

Mahavir Mandir Trusts

Mahavir Mandir Trusts is named as Shri Mahavir Sthan Nyas Samiti and monitors working & development of Mahavir Mandir.The Trusts also runs number of human welfare organization like Mahavir Cancer Sansthan, Patna , Mahavir Vaatsalya Hospital and Mahavir Arogya Hospitaland several hospitals and orphanage in the Bihar. Trust has submitted its 2008-09 budget, which is of Rs 35.13 crore.
