Lauren Bis
Lauren Bowman Bis is an American civil servant, serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Media Relations in the US Department of Homeland Security.
Early life and education
Bis attended the University of Texas at Austin, studying government and political communications with a minor in history. As an undergraduate, she interned with the The Heritage Foundation as a research assistant within the Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies.
Career
Bis previously served as director of communications and engagement for the Public Interest Legal Foundation, a conservative group that sued states to release voter registration lists in the aftermath of the 2020 elections.
Second Trump Administration
Bis is a member of the second Trump Administration, working with the Office of Public Affairs under Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
Since 2025, Bis has appeared in videos published by the Department of Homeland Security's social media accounts, including on fact checking "the lies of the media”.
In the aftermath of the [...] of Renee Good by an ICE officer, Bis was featured in a DHS video captioned "Defend the Homeland. Protect the American way of life.", and repeated claims that Good was a "rioter". Bis' characterization was criticized on social media.
