David Bourget
David Bourget is a Canadian philosopher specializing in philosophy of mind. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Western Ontario. He is also the Director of Western's Institute for Digital Philosophy, which runs PhilPapers, which he co-founded alongside David Chalmers.
Academic Background
Bourget studied computer science at the Université Laval before earning a Doctor of philosophy from the Australian National University under the supervision of David Chalmers. His thesis was on mental representation.
In 2013, He joined the faculty of the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. As of 2026, he was an associate professor.
His academic work focuses on consciousness and intentionality. He argues that consciousness grounds meaning and concepts, and that it is closely related to intentionality.
Personal Life
Bourget is married to fellow philosopher and academic Angela Mendelovici. He is an agnostic atheist.
