Michael D. Sullivan (advisor)
Michael D. Sullivan (born 15 August 1951) is an American tax-resolution consultant, former IRS revenue officer and teaching instructor, and the founding principal of MDSullivan LLC, a Fort Lauderdale-based firm that represents individual and corporate taxpayers in collection, audit and penalty matters.
Early life and education
Sullivan was born in the United States. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in pre-law at Biscayne College, today St. Thomas University.
Career
IRS service (1973–1982)
Sullivan joined the IRS in 1973 and was assigned to the agency’s elite Narcotics Trafficking Program during the height of the South-Florida ‘‘[...] Cowboys’’ era. Working with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he traced illicit cash flows, executed more than 300 asset seizures and helped forfeit over US$2 million in drug proceeds in 1975 alone. His performance led to a posting with the Dedicated Seizure Group and later to selection as a Certified Tax Instructor in the IRS Atlanta regional training office, where he taught advanced collection techniques.
MDSullivan LLC
Following his departure from government, Sullivan spent more than two decades in solo and partnership practice before formally registering MDSullivan LLC in Florida; the firm traces its origins to 2009 and was incorporated in 2013.
Mentorship and media work
Sullivan is also active as a mentor and educator. He founded ‘‘The Tax Mob,’’ a private Facebook community that has grown to more than 5,300 CPAs, enrolled agents, attorneys and former IRS officials, and organizes an annual Tax Mob Convention in cities such as Las Vegas, Nashville, Denver and San Juan. His YouTube channel, ‘‘Help from a Former IRS Agent,’’ has passed 1.7 million views, and he is a frequent on-air commentator for Fox Business, ABC, NewsNation and Newsmax on enforcement trends and taxpayer rights.
