John L Johnson

John L Johnson (Born: March, 1953) is a fotmer educator, author, and currently CEO and founder of John L Johnson & Company, an Atlanta, Georgia-based private equity/venture capital firm.

A businessman with over 25 years of experience in the public and private sectors, he received an AB degree from Harvard University, with honors, and went on to receive an MA and a PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

In the private sector, Johnson has held executive-level positions with the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO); Mellon Bank, NA; R.H. Macy and Company. He is also the founder of Tristan Press, in Atlanta, GA, and the author of Every Night and Every Morn, the first and only book that profiles all known persons of color and other distinct ethnic minorities, and a woman that received the Congressional Medal of Honor.

In higher education and research, Johnson has held positions as a Herman Kahn Fellow at the Hudson Institute; research associate at the University of California, Berkeley; special assistant to the vice president for academic affairs at Norfolk State University; director of institutional research, assessment and planning at Spelman College; assistant Professor of education at Georgia State University; and Winston-Salem State University, where he was assistant provost for administration and planning. Most recently, Johnson served as the associate dean for the school of health sciences at WSSU.
