Howard Gethin

Howard Hilary Llyr Gethin is a Welsh journalist based in Moscow, Russia.

Gethin was born in Bristol, England in 1966 to Welsh-speaking parents from Llandovery.

He grew up in Australia before returning to the United Kingdom, where he studied politics at the University of Wales, Swansea. After graduation, Gethin spent time as a helicopter pilot with the Royal Navy.

After leaving the Navy, Gethin spent time in South Asia, where he travelled from Pakistan to Hong Kong via Tibet and the Xinjiang-Uigur Autonomous Region on bike.

The experience inspired Gethin to begin writing AbOUT his experiences and he has now had several pieces on travel in various off-the-beaten-track places published. Gethin's travel guides focus on areas with "mountains and men with guns", such as Nepal, Georgia, Russia, and Wales.

Gethin is now a journalist in Moscow, where he has written for a number of aeronautical and trade publications. After spending four years as Editor-in-Chief of Global Services at the Russian news agency Interfax, he moved to become output editor at the Kremlin-funded TV station Russia Today.
