Simon Grindrod
Simon Grindrod is the leader of the Independent Democrats' City of Cape Town caucus, a PR member of the Cape Town City Council, and a subcouncillor for Subcouncil 1 (Blaauwberg). He is also a member of the mayoral committee for Economic and Social Development and Tourism.
Controversy
Both he and Patricia de Lille, the national leader of the ID, were embroiled in controversy after an anonymous blogger under the pseudonym samaleprostitute alleged that Grindrod had solicited [...] favors from him. This subsequently resulted in an arrest (allegedly of Juan Uys of Crime Expo South Africa fame) and lawsuit that was later settled Out Of Court by the blogger who then wanted to counter sue Grindrod, but the suit was dropped; the blogger deleted his posts and apologized to the gay and lesbian community in South Africa. de Lille then controversially announced her desire to see government restrictions placed on social networking websites in South Africa.
