Friedrich von Luxburg

Friedrich Ulrich Maximilian Johann Graf von Luxburg, Fürst zu Carolath-Beuthen und Prinz von Schoenaich-Carolath (born 17 August 1963) is a Venezuelan–German lawyer and philanthropist. He is the head of the House of Luxburg Carolath and serves as president of the Luxburg Carolath Foundation, a charitable organisation active in Venezuela.

Early life and education

Von Luxburg Carolath was born in Rittsteig, Bavaria, then part of West Germany. His family later relocated to Venezuela, where he completed his secondary education in Caracas. He earned a doctorate in law from the Central University of Venezuela.

Career

He began his professional career in financial consulting in Europe before founding a private securities firm, which he sold in the mid-1990s. He later established a legal practice in Maracaibo, specialising in corporate law and commercial law.

Alongside his legal work, von Luxburg Carolath has promoted microfinance initiatives aimed at supporting small businesses and rural economic development in Venezuela.

In January 2024, Al Bawaba published an interview with von Luxburg Carolath in which he described the long-standing assistance his family foundation has provided to rural and indigenous communities in Venezuela and discussed broader economic and social issues affecting the country.

Philanthropy

Von Luxburg Carolath is president of the Luxburg Carolath Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded in 1940. The foundation supports projects in humanitarian aid, cultural preservation, education, and community development, particularly in the Zulia region.

Cultural heritage

Since 1985, he has been the head of the House of Luxburg Carolath, a European noble lineage established in the 19th century. The family is historically associated with estates in Central Europe, including heritage properties in present-day Poland, such as Schloss Matzdorf.
