Free Learning Exchange

The Free Learning Exchange was created in 2007 and is for the community in Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding area of North Staffordshire in the UK to share their knowledge, skills and talents.

Completely free of charge, it is based on the concept of The Exchange in Chicago, USA, as referenced in Instead of Education by John Caldwell Holt.

People wishing to learn a certain subject or skill contact the Free Learning exchange website, who then list that area of interest on the site. People wishing to pass on a skill or area of knowledge do the same thing. The Free Learning Exchange then puts those people in contact with each other to meet up how and when they want to enable the "teacher" to pass on their knowledge or skill to the "student". People can also use the service to meet up with people in the area who hold similar interests to themselves.

The idea is that, whether someone is a professional, tradesperson, homemaker, student, craftsperson, retired or none of the above, everyone has some skill or area of knowledge to pass on.

There is no charge for using the site or the service at any point, and there are no certificates or qualifications involved. It is for people who wish to learn a skill or share their knowledge simply for the sake of doing just that.
