Expat Asset Management is the only ETF provider from Central and Eastern Europe with ETFs listed in Frankfurt on Xetra and on the London Stock Exchange. It uses the trademark "Expat Capital" or "Expat" in its operations. The company is privately owned.

Index ETFs for Central and Eastern Europe

The company - based in Sofia, Bulgaria - was founded in 2007 and launched its first ETF in 2016. As of January 2026, Expat's ETF line consists of 11 passive index ETFs which follow the major local equity indices of Greece (Athex Composite, ticker: GRX), Bulgaria (SOFIX, ticker: BGX), Romania (BET), North Macedonia (MBI10, ticker: MKK1), Serbia (BELEX15, ticker: ESNB), Croatia (CROBEX, ticker: ECDC), Slovenia (SBI TOP, ticker: SLQX), Hungary (BUX, ticker: HUBE), Slovakia (SAX, ticker: SK9A), Czechia (PX, ticker: CZX) and Poland (WIG20, ticker: PLX). All funds are traded in euro. For some of those indices, Expat Asset Management is the only index ETF provider globally (i.e. Czechia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Serbia).

Expat's ETFs are designed to give international investors country-specific exposure to Central and Eastern Europe in a well-known European UCITS ETF wrapper. The ETFs overcome common problems for the region, like issues with market access, trading in various local currencies, high transaction costs, currency conversion costs, low liquidity and wider spreads. The funds act as conduits for capital flows between the international financial markets (Xetra, London Stock Exchange) and the local capital markets in the CEE region.

As of January 2026, Expat is one of 36 ETF providers on Deutsche Boerse (Xetra) and one of around 50 ETF providers on the London Stock Exchange. The company's funds are also listed in Sofia on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange.

Other Activities

Expat Asset Management is the largest independent asset manager in Bulgaria. Apart from ETFs, the company manages UCITS mutual funds, alternative investment funds and discretionary portfolios for private clients.
