Eugeniu Mihalcean
Eugeniu Mihalcean (born 2003) is a Moldovan freestyle wrestler. Competing in the 86 kg weight class, Mihalcean won the bronze medal at the 2026 European Wrestling Championships.
Career
Mihalcean won the bronze medal in the men's freestyle 79 kg event at the 2023 European U23 Wrestling Championships. He defeated Turkey's Okan Tahtacı 10–5 in the quarter-finals, before losing 5–1 to Georgia's Vladimeri Gamkrelidze in the semi-finals. In the bronze-medal match, he defeated Romania's Gigi Marian Subtirica by fall to finish third.
At the 2023 World Junior Wrestling Championships held in Amman, Jordan, Mihalcean won the bronze medal in the men's freestyle 86 kg event. During the tournament, he defeated Ali Shakriyev, who competed for Russia, Kyrgyzstan's Ulukbek Soorombekov and Iran's Amirhossein Alizadehshahkolaei. After losing to Japan's Fumiya Igarashi in the semi-finals, he defeated Armenia's Mushegh Mkrtchyan in the bronze-medal match.
At the 2024 U23 World Wrestling Championships held in Tirana, Albania, Mihalcean won the bronze medal in the men's freestyle 86 kg event. In the bronze-medal match, he defeated Georgia's Vladimeri Gamkrelidze 6–5 to finish third.
At the 2025 European Wrestling Championships, Mihalcean finished fifth in the men's freestyle 86 kg event. The same year, he won the bronze medal in the 86 kg event at the 2025 European U23 Wrestling Championships. He defeated Razmik Yepremyan by fall and then beat Bulgaria's Radomir Stoyanov 7–2 in the bronze-medal match to finish third.
At the 2025 U23 World Wrestling Championships held in Novi Sad, Serbia, Mihalcean won the silver medal in the men's freestyle 86 kg event. He defeated Mexico's Kevin Ozmar De Leon Trevino by fall in the qualification round, France's Rakhim Magamadov 7–4 in the round of 16, Turkmenistan's Soltan Sanjar Begenjov 10–0 by technical superiority in the quarter-finals and Iran's Abolfazl Rahmani Firouzjaei 2–1 in the semi-finals. In the final, he lost 10–0 by technical superiority to Arsen Balaian, who competed for United World Wrestling.
At the 2026 European Wrestling Championships held in Tirana, Albania, Mihalcean won the bronze medal in the men's freestyle 86 kg event. He defeated Finland's Miko Elkala 8–0 in the round of 32 and Spain's Gabriel Iglesias 11–1 by technical superiority in the round of 16. In the quarter-finals, he lost 11–0 by technical superiority to Arsenii Dzhioev, who competed for Azerbaijan. After Cioyev reached the final, Mihalcean entered the repechage, where he defeated Ukraine's Denis Bykov 4–0. In the bronze-medal match, he defeated Latvia's Ivars Samušonoks 7–2 to finish third.
