Elektrateq ETX
The Elektrateq ETX (originally developed as the Vega ETX) is an all-electric, multi-purpose three-wheeled vehicle designed and manufactured by Vega Innovations, a subsidiary of CodeGen International based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Positioned as a sustainable alternative to the traditional internal combustion engine "tuk-tuk," the ETX was developed to modernize urban mobility in South Asia through high-efficiency electric drivetrains and modular design.
Development
Following the debut of the Vega EVX supercar, Vega Innovations shifted its focus toward mass-market transportation to address the high fuel costs and carbon emissions associated with traditional three-wheelers. The vehicle project transitioned to the "Elektrateq" brand to distinguish its commercial urban vehicles from the company's high-performance racing projects. In 2024, the ETX received international recognition by winning the iF Design Award in Berlin for its functional and eco-conscious design aimed at the South Asian market.
Specifications
The ETX is built on a proprietary electric powertrain developed in-house. It features a 10 kW peak power motor and a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack, providing a range of up to 150 km on a single charge. The vehicle is designed for urban use with a top speed of 70 km/h and an 18° gradeability to handle steep city inclines. Charging is supported by a fast-charging system capable of reaching 80% capacity in approximately one hour, as well as compatibility with standard domestic AC chargers.
ETX
The ETX is the base model designed for everyday commuting and taxi services. It features a powerful electric motor with 10 kW peak power, allowing it to reach a top speed of 70 km/h. It is built to be strong enough to climb hills with a 18-degree gradeability. The vehicle can travel up to 150 km on a single charge. It includes a modern cabin for the driver with a digital screen, USB ports for charging phones, and a sound system. The battery is designed for efficiency and can be fast-charged to 80% in about one hour, while a regular home charger takes around six hours for a full charge.
ETX-L
The ETX-L is the premium version of the ETX, designed for a more comfortable and high-end experience. It shares the same performance as the standard model, including the 10 kW motor and 150 km range. However, the ETX-L is unique because it features a fully enclosed cabin with four doors and a built-in air conditioning system, which is rare for three-wheelers. The interior uses higher-quality materials and more comfortable seats. It is intended for use as a luxury shuttle or a more private, weather-protected taxi for urban areas.
ETX-C
The ETX-C is the heavy-duty version made specifically for carrying goods and making deliveries. Instead of passenger seats in the back, it has a large cargo space that can be changed to fit different types of items. It is built with a stronger suspension system to handle a payload of over 400 kg. Despite carrying heavy loads, it maintains the platform's high performance with a 70 km/h top speed. The ETX-C is aimed at delivery companies and small businesses that want to lower their transport costs, as running the vehicle on electricity is much cheaper than using petrol.
Partnerships
In May 2024, Vega Innovations signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO), a leading automotive distributor in Sri Lanka, to handle the distribution, marketing, and after-sales services for the ETX fleet.
