Disappearance of Danielle Stislicki
Danielle Stislicki, nicknamed Dani and born February 28, 1988, is an American woman who lived in Farmington Hills, Michigan when, on December 2, 2016, she mysteriously disappeared at some point between her leaving work in Southfield and her arriving home. She has not been seen or heard from since.
Summary of events
On December 2, 2016, Stislicki failed to arrive at home after leaving her job at MetLife at approximately 5:00 PM. She had plans for dinner with a friend, but the friend didn't hear from her as expected, and became worried as such behavior is said to be very out-of-character for her. On December 3, the friend visited Stislicki's apartment at the Independence Green complex near Halsted and Grand River in Farmington Hills. Danielle's 2015 Jeep Renegade was found parked in front of her apartment, with her purse, containing identification and credit cards. A rose gold-colored Samsung Galaxy Core Prime mobile phone known to be owned by Stislicki was not found in the car with her purse, nor were her keys.
Within a week of the disappearance, the Independence Green apartment complex offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to a conviction or if Stislicki is found alive. However, before the end of December 2016, the police conceded that she was most likely no longer alive. Based on the evidence available at the time, the Farmington Hills Police Department announced that she was likely to have been the victim of a crime. Further rewards were offered as time went on, but no new or credible leads appeared at first.
News of the case loomed large over the metropolitan Detroit area, but did not receive much national coverage.
On December 22, police searched a private residence in Berkley, and seized, among other items, a mattress. Two months later, more items, including floorboards and a car, were removed. News reporters interviewed neighbors, who stated that the owner or occupant hadn't been seen in Berkley since around the time of Stislicki's disappearance. The occupant was named a person of interest in the case—Floyd Russell Galloway, Jr.
Further developments
Galloway had worked as a security guard in the same building that Stislicki worked, but was no longer employed there at the time of her disappearance. Galloway was charged with kidnapping, criminal [...] conduct with intent to penetrate and aggravated assault in connection with a separate case against another 28-year-old woman, this one in Livonia's Hines Park. The potential victim was able to fight Galloway off and escape to hail a passing car, from which she called the police. After a search of the park, the suspect was not found, but the victim was able to provide police with an accurate composite image which ultimately lead to his arrest, and subsequent naming as a person of interest in the disappearance of Stislicki. Galloway has also been named a person of interest in a similar case that occurred in June 2017 in Allen Park, after this victim was also able to give an accurate composite image of the suspect. Police are considering links between the three cases known thus far.
In July 2017, a group of 155 police officers, FBI agents, K-9 teams and cadaver dogs scoured Hines Park, where Galloway was alleged to have committed the multiple and various assaults he was charged with only three months before Stislicki disappeared. The searchers found a brown and white comforter blanket that they believe may have been used wrap Stislicki during the crime.
On December 22, 2016, Farmington Hills Police Chief Chuck Nebus released the following statement:
In July 2017, police served a search warrant on a home in nearby Royal Oak, where Galloway had been living since departing the Berkley home, as well as another warrant to search the Berkley home again. The Royal Oak house was all but empty, and Galloway was not present during either searches. His wife, reportedly, was uncooperative but did not protest the search. The police recovered an undisclosed amount of items as evidence.
Galloway has not been charged with a crime in regards to Stislicki's disappearance, and no new leads have appeared since the revelation of the Allen Park [...] assault case in July 2017.
A Facebook page has been created to keep the news in the public's collective consciousness and to provide the necessary information for reporting a tip to the police. After nearly a year of avoiding press, Stislicki's friends were interviewed by WDIV-TV, sharing their thoughts about the ordeal.
