Diana Kabira Lwanga
Diana Kabira Lwanga (née Diana Kabira), is a Uganda-born businesswoman, language instructor, and visual artist in London. She uses music, plays, and poems while teaching the Luganda language in individual and group settings.
Background and education
She was born in Kichwamba, in present-day Kabarole District, circa 1982 to Jessica Eva Lubwama, a nurse, and George William Wandera Kabira. For her primary schooling, Kabira attended Saint Aloysius Primary School near her home. For her O-Level studies, she attended Naalya Senior Secondary School in Wakiso District. She transferred to Bugema Adventist Secondary School in Luweero District for her A-Level education, graduating in 1999. She graduated from Makerere University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2004.
Career
While on holiday in Kampala, Uganda, she met her future husband. He grew up in Sweden but is an ethnic Muganda. After their wedding, the couple settled in Hampton, London. He is an engineer and was hired by a local employer. She started teaching Luganda to native Baganda children and their parents.
She does this in two ways. First, she runs an after-school programme at Suubi Academy in West London every Friday. She teaches children aged 6 to 18 years about Baganda culture, traditions, and language. Second, she has a private community group called "Mukwano Gw’abato" ("Friend of the youth"), in which she instructs children and their parents about the same topics, using music and the performing arts. Lwanga derives income from both activities.
Other considerations
She is married to engineer Ibrahim Lwanga. They have four children.
