BYU–San Diego State football rivalry
The BYU–San Diego State football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the BYU Cougars and San Diego State Aztecs.
Series history
The rivalry dates back to 1947 when they met for the first time in San Diego and the Aztecs won 32–7. When the Aztecs joined the WAC in 1978 the two teams started playing on an annual basis. Then in 1999 the teams moved to the newly formed Mountain West Conference and competed on an annual basis once again. Since 2011 the Cougars have become independent and no longer compete on an annual basis with the Aztecs. They have played once since then in the Poinsettia Bowl where BYU won 23–6.
