Brzeźna (hill)
Brzeźna is a hill in the Otmuchów Depression in southwestern Poland. With an elevation of above sea level, it is the highest point of the Otmuchów Depression.
The hill lies in the northern part of the Sudeten Foreland and forms a modest but locally prominent elevation within the otherwise flat lowland landscape. Due to the generally low relief of the surrounding terrain, Brzeźna stands out as a distinctive topographic feature of the region.
Geography
Brzeźna is situated in the Otmuchów Depression, a geomorphological depression extending across the Polish–Czech border between the foothills of the Sudetes and the upper basin of the Nysa Kłodzka River.
The surrounding landscape is composed primarily of gently undulating fields, small forest patches and river terraces. Brzeźna forms the highest natural elevation of the lowland and provides a local watershed between small tributaries draining toward the Nysa Kłodzka basin.
Nearby settlements include villages on both sides of the international border, reflecting the historically interconnected settlement pattern of the region.
Geology
The hill is composed mainly of older bedrock formations associated with the Sudeten Foreland, covered in places by younger Quaternary sediments deposited during glacial and fluvial processes. These sediments contribute to the fertile soils typical of the surrounding agricultural land.
Nature
The slopes of Brzeźna are partly covered by mixed woodland and partly used for agriculture. The surrounding lowland contains meadows, arable land and small wetlands that provide habitats for common Central European flora and fauna.
