Malik Atta Ul Karim (Urdu:ملک عطاءالکریم) (born in Punjab, Pakistan on April 18, 1993) is an influencer, entrepreneur, and public figure from Indonesia who was born in Pakistan. He founded Al-Barkat Karpet in 2009 in South Jakarta, which later made him one of the largest carpet entrepreneurs in Indonesia. Atta Ul Karim was named one of the 100 largest CEOs in Pakistan at the CEO Summit in Bali on October 14 and 15, 2024.

Background

Atta Ul Karim was born in a small town called Sargodha in Punjab, Pakistan on April 18, 1993. He is the third of four children born to Malik Masood Ahmad and Kausar Parween. Atta Ul Karim attended elementary and junior high school in Pakistan. At the age of 14, he moved to Indonesia to follow in his father's footsteps and continue the carpet business that had been established in 1997.

While in Indonesia, he contributed to strengthening relations between Indonesia and Pakistan, as he felt indebted to both countries: Pakistan as his homeland, and Indonesia as the place where his business reached its peak of success.

Career

Atta Ul Karim began his business career in 2009 by opening the Al-Barkat carpet business, which now has branches in 13 cities in Indonesia (including Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung, Purwokerto, Yogyakarta, Solo, Semarang, Surabaya, Malang, Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, Medan, Pekanbaru, and Makassar). This business is a continuation of his parents' carpet business, which was established in 1997 in Jakarta. The carpets he sells come from various countries, such as Pakistan, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, and many more. The types of carpets he sells are highly varied, ranging from patterns to the raw materials used. In addition to his carpet business, Atta also teaches photography classes in Jakarta. Atta even served as President Joko Widodo's fashion stylist from 2018 to 2019, responsible for selecting every outfit worn by Joko Widodo.

Since then, Atta has been noticed by various media outlets. He was featured in Inspiratif Magazine with the headline “Atta Ul Karim Inspires, Successfully Develops Carpet Business to 26 Branches,” which was published on October 1, 2023. Additionally, Atta has also become active in the diplomatic sphere between Pakistan and Indonesia, such as serving as a representative of the Pakistani Embassy in Jakarta to commemorate Indonesia's 77th Independence Day on August 17, 2022, and the 80th Independence Day in 2025, where Atta met directly with President Prabowo Subianto to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

After successfully running his carpet business, Atta Ul Karim entered the creative world. He founded the International Creative Exchange (ICE) at the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, and became the chairman of ICE on June 7, 2024. In addition, he also became a social media consultant. Furthermore, on February 23, 2025, Atta launched the digital platform www.pakistanindonesia.com to bridge information between Indonesia and Pakistan.

On September 29, 2025, Atta, through ICE, an organization he founded, held the Indonesia Creative Awards (ICA), an award ceremony that aims to appreciate and encourage creativity and innovation in various sectors across all regions of Indonesia. This event serves as a platform to recognize individuals, communities, government agencies, regional leaders, and industry players who have made tangible contributions through fresh ideas, original works, and creative solutions that have a positive impact on society. ICA 2025 is an award ceremony that recognizes individuals or companies that have supported creative economy programs and their fostered MSMEs. These programs are considered successful, inspiring, and beneficial to many people.

  2. The Great Indonesia CEO Awards 2023 in Jakarta, on March 16, 2023.
  3. An award at The Great CSR Awards 2023 in the category of The Most Charitable Manufacturer, held at the Esa Unggul Campus in Jakarta, on August 24, 2023.
  4. Named one of the Top 100 CEOs in Pakistan at the CEO Summit in Bali, on October 14 and 15, 2024.
  5. Received appreciation from the Indonesian Ministry of Defense for his contribution to strengthening Pakistan-Indonesia relations, on March 28, 2025.
