PICTON Investments is a Canadian asset management firm driven by a clear mission to bring greater certainty to investors and guided by a vision to transform the way the world invests. In 2025, the firm introduced a new purpose and a new mascot for the brand, a grizzly bear named Murph. The new purpose “Build from the Bear Up™” represents a belief that investing is about mindset over market encouraging investors to see the bear not as a symbol of fear or decline, but as a mindset rooted in resilience, preparedness, and opportunity.

This perspective underpins PICTON’s commitment to helping investors build portfolios and confidence that can endure through all market environments. Grounded in a risk-first approach, the firm aims to focus on achieving stability and strong risk-adjusted returns across cycles, combining quantitative research, human insight, and AI-driven analysis to help deliver diversified portfolios designed to perform.

Over more than twenty years, PICTON Investments has earned a reputation as one of Canada’s most trusted investment firms in bringing institutional-grade strategies, such as liquid-alternative funds, to retail investors. Its long-term mission has been to construct portfolios that help lower risk without sacrificing returns, drawing on rigorous quantitative research, hedging techniques, and alternative risk-management principles. The firm manages a diversified range of investment strategies, including equity, multi-asset, income, and merger arbitrage.

Branding

Murph PICTON Investments’ branding reflects its risk-first investment philosophy and mission to “bring greater certainty to investors.” “Mindset Over Markets” emphasizes long-term discipline and preparation for market volatility. Its approach, described as “build from the bear up,” positions the bear as a symbol to make risk visible and tangible, illustrating the foundational role of risk management in portfolio construction.

In 2025, the firm introduced a revised visual identity centered around the bear. The bear, referred to by the firm as “Murph,” represents risk awareness, resilience, and preparedness, contrasting the traditionally bullish imagery associated with financial markets. According to the company, the bear is intended to serve as a visual reminder of potential risks and to reinforce a mindset of preparedness.

Company executives have stated that the rebrand was motivated in part by a desire to differentiate the firm from what they describe as uniform financial-industry marketing. They have positioned the imagery and messaging as emphasizing realism and preparation, in alignment with the firm’s investment philosophy.
