Alpha Music Corporation
Alpha Music Corporation (formerly Alpha Records) is a Filipino record label founded in 1963 by Buddy De Vera. It is one of the country’s pioneering independent labels, known for signing major artists such as Nora Aunor, Aegis, Siakol, Moonstar88, Session Road, and Six Part Invention.
History
1963–1970s: Founding and early years
Alpha Music began as Alpha Recording System in 1963, focusing on domestic production. By the late 1960s, it signed Nora Aunor, whose recordings helped establish the label as a household name.
1980s: Licensing international music
In the 1980s, Alpha expanded by acquiring licenses for MCA Records, A&M Records, Virgin Records, and Factory Records, bringing international music to the Philippines.
1990s–2000s: Rise of OPM bands
Alpha became known for nurturing Filipino bands in the 1990s and 2000s, including Aegis, Siakol, and Moonstar88, whose hits like “Halik” and “Torete” became staples of OPM.
2010s–present: Digital era
Alpha Music adapted to the digital era by distributing its catalog on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, while continuing to sign new artists.
