SMH Records is an American record label based out of Charlotte, North Carolina and Louisville, Kentucky. The label is distributed though Caroline which is part of the Capitol Music Group / Universal Music Group umbrella. Mike Smith and Jonathan Hay are the owners of the company. Jonathan Hay is a well-known celebrity publicist most recognized for his work with Rihanna, Sony Music and Ariel Winter. Mike Smith is an entrepreneur from the medical and software field. Smith is also a skilled musician and a expert with many instruments. John Nicholas is the general manager of SMH Records after being with Universal Music Group for over 25 years.
In October 2013, SMH Records claimed to have raised 30 million dollars in capital. In December 2013, it was reported by Perez Hilton that the label offered Lindsay Lohan a record deal, a calculated publicity stunt by Jonathan Hay. The label released a song and video that disses Kim Kardashian called "Dipstick". Sylvia Massy reported that she had mixed songs produced by Jonathan Hay and Mike Smith that featured Johnny Depp for SMH Records. Jonathan Hay and Mike Smith made an offer of $15 million to Jay Z to produce an entire album titled "Continuity" for the superstar.
In late 2014, SMH Records made an announcement about a new reality TV Show called One Shot. One Shot is a TV show where aspiring Rap artists compete in front of a panel of judges for a shot at winning $100,000 cash and a record deal with SMH Records. Sway Calloway,Crooked I, Mike Smith, DJ King Tech, Jonathan Hay, Kathy Iandoli, Kimberly Osorio and Jack Thriller are all involved with the competition.
Crooked I of Slaughterhouse, Horseshoe Gang, Pink Grenade, Smith & Hay and Billionaire heiress Bim Fernandez have all been signed to the label.
