Akhmed Magamaev
Akhmed Magamaev (; born 22 January 1991) is a Russian-born freestyle wrestler of Chechen origin who represents Bulgaria. He competed for Russia in the early part of his career before switching to the Bulgarian national team. Magamaev won the bronze medal in the men's freestyle 97 kg event at the 2026 European Wrestling Championships.
Career
Magamaev trained at the Spartak wrestling school in Khasavyurt. In 2016, he reached the final of the Intercontinental Cup held in Khasavyurt. In 2017, he represented the Russia national team at the Wrestling World Cup, where the team finished fifth.
From 2018, Magamaev began competing for Bulgaria. The same year, he became Bulgarian freestyle wrestling champion at the national championships held in Sliven.
Magamaev finished eighth at the 2019 European Wrestling Championships and fifth at the 2020 European Wrestling Championships. In 2020, he reached the podium at the 2020 Yasar Dogu Tournament in Istanbul. In 2021, he again became Bulgarian champion.
In 2024, Magamaev won the Bulgarian Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Stara Zagora after defeating Sali Saliev in the final. He finished fifth in the 97 kg event at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships.
At the 2026 European Wrestling Championships held in Tirana, Albania, Magamaev won the bronze medal in the men's freestyle 97 kg event. He lost 12–2 by technical superiority to Abdulrashid Sadulaev, who competed for United World Wrestling, in the semi-finals. In the bronze-medal match, Magamaev defeated Moldova's Radu Lefter by fall while leading 4–2 to finish third in Europe.
