Islam Guseinov
Islam Guseinov (; born 15 February 2000) is a Russian-born Belarusian freestyle wrestler. He competed for Russia in the early part of his career and began representing Belarus in 2019. Guseinov won the bronze medal in the men's freestyle 65 kg event at the 2026 European Wrestling Championships.
Career
Guseinov trained at the UOR wrestling school in Khasavyurt, where he worked under coach Ali Ishakov. In 2019, he changed his sporting nationality from Russia to Belarus. He won the Belarus Cup, took silver at the Belarus junior championships and achieved results in several junior tournaments.
In 2020, Guseinov won the silver medal in the 57 kg event at the Belarus Under-23 Freestyle Wrestling Championships. He competed in three bouts at the tournament, winning his first two matches early before losing in the final to Dmitriy Shamelo of Gomel.
In 2023, he won the silver medal at the Belarus Championships held in Molodechno after losing to Nyurgun Skryabin in the final. The same year, he won the silver medal in the 65 kg event at the CIS Games in Minsk.
In 2024, Guseinov finished second in the 65 kg event at the Belarus Championships held in Grodno, losing in the final to Anatoliy Gromyko of Gomel. In 2025, he became Belarusian champion in Minsk after defeating Anatoliy Gromyko in the final.
At the 2026 European Wrestling Championships held in Tirana, Albania, Guseinov won the bronze medal in the men's freestyle 65 kg event. In the earlier rounds, he defeated Moldova's Pavel Graur and Gamzatgadji Khalidov, who competed for Hungary, before losing in the semi-finals to Islam Dudaev, who represented Albania. In the bronze-medal match, he defeated Turkey's Ahmet Duman to finish third.
Personal life
Guseinov is the nephew of former Dagestan freestyle wrestling head coach Geydar Geydarov and Belarusian wrestler Murad Gaidarov.
