Abdirahman Ahmed Olol

Abdirahman Ahmed Olol is a Somali journalist based in Las Anod, Somalia. He has worked with Somali media organizations and has reported on events in Las Anod and other parts of northeastern Somalia.

Early life and education

Abdirahman Ahmed Olol was born on 1 January 1995 in Las Anod, Somalia. He is from the Farhaskulle district of Las Anod.

He attended Abyan Primary School in Las Anod and Nugaal Secondary School. He later attended Gollis University, where he studied in the Faculty of Nutrition.

Journalism

Olol has worked as a journalist for Somali media organizations. His work has included news reporting, InterViews and coverage of political, security and social events.

He has worked with media organizations including Horn Cable TV (HCTV), MM Somali TV, Somali Cable TV, Kalsan TV and Galsan TV.

2019 detention

On 9 December 2019, Abdirahman Ahmed Olol was among journalists covering the opening of a hotel in Las Anod who were detained by Somaliland police.

The Somali Journalists Syndicate reported that Olol, a reporter for Horn Cable TV, was detained after livestreaming the event from his Facebook account. He was released without charge after approximately three hours.

The incident was also included in the Somali Journalists Syndicate's 2019 report on press freedom in Somalia, which identified Olol as a Horn Cable TV reporter detained in Las Anod.

Horufadhi Media also reported the detention and identified Olol as a journalist with HCTV.
