Mirjalal Gurbanov
Mirjalal Gurbanov (born 19 March 1980) is an Azerbaijani poet, songwriter, member of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers, Recipient of a presidential scholarship, and head of Fire Land Group. He served as president of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation from 2021 to 2023. He is also president of the Javanshir Sports Club.
From 2001 to 2023, he served in the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan and attained the rank of colonel of the customs service.
Early life and education
Gurbanov was born on 19 March 1980 in Baku, Azerbaijan. In 1986, he entered Secondary School No. 21 in the Yasamal district of Baku. He graduated from the school in 1996 and enrolled in the Faculty of Economics at Tafakkur University.
In 2000, after completing his first year at the university, he voluntarily enlisted for military service. After completing his military service, he resumed his education. In 2003, he completed a master's degree in Oil Industry and Ecology at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy.
In 2005, Gurbanov was admitted to the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, where he studied state and municipal administration in the Faculty of Administrative Management. He graduated in 2008.
From 2001 to 2023, he worked in the Baku Main Customs Department Of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan and held the rank of colonel of the customs service.
Gurbanov is a candidate for the title of Master of Sports in freestyle wrestling. He served as president of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation from 2021 to 2023.
His mother is Zarqalam Aghamusa gizi Gurbanova, from Boradigah settlement in the Masally District. He has a daughter, Fatima Mirjalal gizi Gurbanli, and a son, Ali Mirjalal oghlu Gurbanov.
Customs service
From 15 January 2001 to 24 July 2001, Gurbanov worked as a specialist at the Baku branch of Azərterminalkompleks, a unit of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.
From 2003 to 2007, he worked as an inspector at the Keshlə Customs Post of the Baku Main Customs Department. Between 2004 and 2007, he also served as a senior inspector in the Customs Clearance Department of the Baku Main Customs Department.
From 2004 to 2018, he served as a chief inspector at the Baku Main Customs Department. Between 2016 and 2018, he was appointed head of a group established within the department's "Green Corridor" customs clearance system.
From 2018 to 2023, he worked as a chief inspector at the Air Transport Main Customs Department of the Baku Main Customs Department.
During his customs service, Gurbanov was awarded third-, second- and first-degree badges for "Service in Customs Authorities". In 2018, he was awarded a presidential scholarship.
In 2023, he left public service voluntarily. Following his departure from government service, he became involved in projects supporting the families of Azerbaijani soldiers killed in the line of duty and veterans. He has led the projects "My Son Is a Hero!" and "My Father Is a Hero!".
Literary and artistic work
Gurbanov has been a member of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers since 2013. He is a songwriter and poet, a recipient of a presidential scholarship, and the head of Fire Land Production. He has also led the projects "Long Live, Azerbaijan!", "My Father Is a Hero!", and "My Son Is a Hero!".
