2026 Damascus bus bombing

On 6 August 2026, 14 people were injured when a bomb exploded on a passenger minibus in the suburb of Jaramana, Syria, just outside of Damascus.

Background

Following the fall of the Assad regime, Syria's provisional government initially struggled to establish full, consolidated control over the country and to contain attacks by extremist cells, including the Islamic State and its affiliates, and remnants of the former regime.

On 2 July 2026, an [...] device detonated at a café near Damascus' main judicial complex in the Midan neighbourhood, [...] 10 people and injuring 21 others. No group claimed responsibility for the attack, though many Syrians blamed loyalists or remnants of the former Assad regime. On 3 July 2026, during funeral processions, mourners called for those allegedly responsible to be brought to justice. On the same day, a man on a motorcycle attacked a security checkpoint in Jaramana with hand grenades, wounding three security personnel before being killed when another grenade exploded in his hand. Syrian authorities arrested another suspect in connection with the attack.
