Lance Corporal Maria Frances Lauterbach (1987 – 11 January 2008) of Dayton, Ohio was a United States Marine who went missing on 14 December 2007 from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. At the time of her disappearance, Lauterbach was eight months pregnant. Lauterbach was preparing to testify that that she was raped by an officer. Her mother told police that she "claimed she had been raped by a senior officer at her command, and that the investigation had gone sour." According to an Associated Press report, her stepmother told police, "that her stepdaughter was bipolar and had a history of compulsive lying." Her mother, Mary Lauterbach, reported her missing on 19 December. Her cell phone was found on 20 December near the main gate at Camp Lejeune. There was a "suspicious activity" on her bank accounts on 24 December 2007.
Death
During a press conference on January 11, 2008, Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown has reported the death of Lauterbach. Investigators are currently searching for her body in a residential wooded area in Onslow County. Brown stated that authorities "had gotten physical evidence of the woman's death that also linked Lauren to the death".
The prime suspect in the case is Cpl. Cesar Armando Lauren, the man whom she accused of sexually assaulting her. He is not in custody and a search is on for him as well.
Her unborn child may have died as well. She was planning to give the child up for adoption after giving birth.

Detective Charles 'Charlie' Crews is a fictional character on the NBC drama Life, played by Damian Lewis. He was exonerated for a crime he didn't commit and now uses his new found appreciation for life and insights gained from a Zen book to solving crimes.
Description
Charlie is a Homicide detective in the Los Angeles Police Department. Recently exonerated and released from prison after serving 12 years in Pelican Bay for a crime he didn't commit.
He was placed in solitary confinement for his own protection after being constantly attacked, he received over 216 stitches. The first six months in solitary he spent it doing push-ups everyday, the next six months he started talking to himself and on the last six months of his stay Charlie started to lose his mind until one day on his one hour outside solitary he found a book on Zen, with the help of the book Charlie was able to regain his sanity and eventually he asked to return to the general population.
Sometime after his return to the general populace Charlie saves Ted Earley's life.
After his exoneration and winning a settlement from the City of Los Angeles Charlie is reinstated to the LAPD as a Homicide Detective and is partnered to Dani Reese.
Since no fruits were served in prison Charlie developed an interest in growing and eating fruit and with the help of Ted purchased an orange grove with a big red tractor .
Unknown to most of his friends and colleagues Charlie has launched his own independent investigation into the Seybolt murders intending to find the people responsible for their deaths and his 12 year incarceration.
While in prison his wife Jennifer Conover divorced him and his mother died because his father won't let her see Charlie in prison.
Charlie is currently living in an unfurnished mansion with Ted.
