Ernest Ofori Sarpong (born 5 May 1966) is a Ghanaian businessman and founder of Special Group of Companies, a Ghanaian indigenously-owned water company. He owns other businesses in Ghana, including Special Investments Ltd. and Special Homes Ltd. In partnership with Osei Kwame Despite, Ernest co-founded Best Point Savings and Loans Ltd., U2 Salt Ltd, and United Television (UTV) Ltd.

Early life and education

Ofori Sarpong was born in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He attended the Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School for his Secondary Education and proceeded to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, where he pursued a degree in Business Administration. After graduating, he moved to the United Kingdom for his Master's in Science Degree in Finance and Investment Management at the University of Salford.

Career

Ernest Ofori-Sarpong remains very interested in Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME). His passion for entrepreneurship led him to establish Sarpong Ventures Ltd. in the 1990s, an import and trading company in Accra. He later established Special Investments Ltd, a real estate and construction firm, and co-founded United 2 Co. Ltd., which includes U2 Salt Ltd. and United Television (UTV Ltd).

In addition, he founded Special Ice Ltd., a mineral water company with factories in Accra and Kumasi, which won the Best Mineral Water award for 2013 and 2014 in Ghana. In Partnership with Osei Kwame Despite, Ofori Sarpong also co-founded Best Point Savings and Loans Co. Ltd., a prominent financial institution in Ghana. His businesses have created over 3,000 jobs, contributing significantly to Ghana’s economy.

Awards and recognition

Ofori-Sarpong has received the Peristrofi World Honorary International Award as the Honorary Ambassador of Business Entrepreneur in West Africa.

He was also conferred with a Doctorate in Philosophy in Law from Barkley University for his contributions to Ghana's socio-economic development and awarded Best Manufacturing Entrepreneur of 2013 by the Entrepreneurs Foundation. In 2025, he was honored as an Outstanding Citizen at the Georgia (U.S. state) State Capitol.
