Zamorak

In the MMORPG Runescape, Zamorak is considered to be the god of chaos, evil, and destruction. Zamorak was a member of a race called the "Mahjarrat", shapeshifting creatures who came from the realm of Freneskrae. They were brought to Runescape around the begining of the second age by the menephite god of death, Icthlarin. Zamorak and his fellow Mahjarrat eventually tired of Icthlarins control and sided with another God, Zaros. Zaros was a respected God who saw the Mahjarrat for their outstanding abilities as warriors, however, this did not protect him from the rebelion that Zamorak has planned. Zamorak, who was considered among of the most powerful of the Runescape mahjarrat was in a god position to stage a rebelion. He managed to steal the staff belonging to another God, Armadyl. This artifact combined with zamoraks already great power gave him the opertunity to overthrow Zaros. He attempted to rally his fellow Mahjarrat under his banner, and mostly succeded, though a few of them remained loyal to Zaros. He traveled to Zaros' palace and dueled him. Zamorak even with the staff would likely have failed to overthrow Zaros. However, Zamorak managed to impale Zaros with the staff, along with himself. The staff acted as a passage of power from Zaros to Zamorak, strengthening the latter to the point of attaining godhood. This would mark the defining moment of the second age. What happened to Zaros is unknown. Though his kingdom which had extended over much of Runescape was split up, and many other Gods of that time tried to claim this territory for themselves. This is one of the proposed reasons for the start of the God Wars. In year 169 of the fifth age (Modern Runescape) a Mahjarrat named Lucien, a follower of Zamorak gained possesion of the staff of Armadyl. And another artifact known as the 'stone of Jas' which is believed to be the origin of runestones and magic. These two artifacts have now placed Lucien in an ideal position to attain godhood.
