His Life & Motivation
When he was a university student, he made a club called Survival Competition and started a meaningful activity. When he was traveling, foreigners asked him if he is a Chinese or Japanese, but he could not hear the word "Korean." This became a turning point in his life and Mr. Seo started advertising Korea. In 2005, Japan announced the approval on the Day of Takeshima which irritated Mr. Seo and driven him to post an advertisement on New York Times with his own money.
Mr.Seo initiated promotion of Dokdo after 2005, and came up with the idea of raising the international public awareness. He decided to get attention from the world by posting advertisement on New York Times, the most influential media. This was very sensational among Korean-Americans at that time. In 2008, Mr. Seo met Kim Jang hoon, a Korean singer who is strongly interested in advertising Korean culture. Jang claimed that he would support any financial cost that goes into the East Sea project. East Sea project is the activity of correcting Sea of Japan to East sea written on the maps.
Recently, Mr. Seo was chosen as “the year’s oddest celebrity endorsement.” by Adweek and the advertisement of Bulgogi by Choo Shinsoo, a Korean baseball player in Texas Rangers was criticized because of its ineffective and awkward branding of Korea.
