Yancy Gates

Yancy Gates (born October 15, 1989 in Cincinnati, Ohio) is an American college basketball shooting guard with the Cincinnati Bearcats. He attended Withrow High School in Cincinnati.
As a freshman, Gates was named to the Big East all-rookie squad. In a game against West Virginia on February 22, 2009, he scored a season-high 22 points and recorded his second double-double of the season, pulling down eleven rebounds. For the season he averaged 10.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game.
As a sophomore, he ranked 15th in the conference in field goal percentage (.522). He was first on the team in rebounding (5.9) and third in scoring (10.4). His career high in points came against DePaul on February 24, 2010, when he scored 23 and picked up eight rebounds.
Gates has been very consistent in his junior season, picking up double-doubles in two of Cincinnati's first three games. As of January 1, 2011, Gates was averaging 11.5 points per game, good for second on the team behind only Dion Dixon. He was also averaging 6.6 rebounds for the Bearcats, who were undefeated at that point. After beating Xavier on January 6 in a city rivalry game, they have lost twice in the Big East.
