Yakov Feldman(born in Vitebsk, 1969. , ) is an artist painter living in Israel. "Although the artist Yakov Feldman portrays human faces, his work can hardly be categorized within the traditional genre of portrait painting. Feldman does not try to portray actual people; there is more lurking behind his work than just a representation of reality. Mysticism is expressed in various ways and his paintings have a lot in common with Russian icons. The figures depicted seem cut out from, for us, an unknown past like they are performing in front of strange scenery. The background sometimes shows us a misty landscape, sometimes it remains plain and sometimes it is just an atmosphere that is intimated by the structure of the paint. The context is impossible to explain as is the role of the people in it. The essence of Feldman’s work seems to lie in the associative power of the image. The way in which he handles light and his use of paint - he paints many transparent layers over each other - contributes to the quiet, ethereal character of his portraits. The eyes of these depicted figures are always remarkably clear as if contact is being made from the past into a contemporary reality."
